Description

Urbi is being used within the AMORCES project, which is a research collaboration among 5 french university research labs:

  • Laboratoire d’Analyse et d’Architecture des Systèmes
  • Laboratoire Grenoble Images Parole Signal Automatique
  • Neuroscience Cognitive et Représentations Multimodales
  • Groupe de Recherche en Informatique, Image, Instrumentation et Automatique
  • Laboratoire d’Automatique, Mécanique et Informatique industrielles et Humaines

AMORCES stands for "Algorithmes et MOdèles pour un Robot Collaboratif Eloquent et Social", which can be translated roughly as "Algorithms and models for a collaborating, eloquent and social robot."

The robot in question is viewed as a mix of real robot, manipulating robotic hand, and 2D clone (affective embodied conversationnal agent) and is supposed to engage with a human on a collaborative common task.

The objective of the AMORCES project is to study decisional and operational human-robot interaction, and more specifically, the impact of verbal and non-verbal communication on the execution of collaborative tasks between a robot and a human partner. Such interaction is exemplified in situations where the human and robot should cooperate synergistically to realize a task, seen as a shared problem in a context where they share a workspace and see each other directly. The target tasks in this project are centered on the manipulation of mechanical objects in a constrained situated in the field of action and perception of the two partners (the human and the robot).
